Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbrational (CHUC) is a national and international reference hospital located in Coimbra, Portugal. The core lab performs approximately 4 million tests annually, of which 32% are STATs. The laboratory's goals is to maximize utilization of human and financial resources as well as increase the organization's capability to diagnose and treat patients cost-effectively at a high level of quality. To meet these strategic goals, CHUC implemented Abbott's total solution including ACCELERATOR a3600, Alinity ci-series systems and AlinIQ Analyzer Management System. As a result, the organization was able to increase the percent of samples processed on the track from 9% to 100% and streamline sampleworkflows from 5 to 1. Abbott's total solution also yielded improved demand management, optimization of human resources, and other process standardization benefits.
