LABORATORY PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKING

At Abbott, we understand that the laboratory is pivotal to many patient care pathways, with over 70% of medical decisions based on test results*. Unfortunately, many healthcare systems are still geared towards using the laboratory as a ‘vending machine’ – a sample goes in and a result comes out –rather than a central element of patient management. The growing pressure on healthcare providers around the world to do ‘more with less’ is helping to change attitudes, by forcing them to develop more cost-effective, evidence-based healthcare strategies.

Core Diagnostics at Abbott conducted a survey to help Laboratories understand better where they stand and how they perform compared to peers. 773 laboratories from 39 countries across EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) participated in this survey.

As a result of the survey, a report was created, which provides information about the current level of laboratory performance in terms of Operational Excellence, Integrated Clinical Care and Financial Sustainability.
